Summary: Complete the American Flag plaza (Phase IV) of St. Anthony Rotary Park

This project is to complete the plaza around the base of the American flag installed in Rotary Park in St. Anthony, ID. The St. Anthony Rotary Club has entered into a partnership with the City of St. Anthony to convert a large, vacant corner lot adjacent to City Building into a park with a large American flag as the focal point. The park was named "Rotary Park" by the City. This project is part of the continuing Club effort to support the city parks and to provide a safe and beautiful environment for the people who live here and to make the City attractive to businesses that may want to locate here. This park is adjacent to the main highway through town and will improve the appearance of the area. The Club has agreed to provide funding and install the park facilities to code and the City will operate and maintain the park in the future.

The park is being constructed in phases. In previous phases the 70-ft flag pole and flag have been installed, as well as lighting for the flag and improvements to the sprinkler system to water the landscaping. The first phases of the flag plaza and an access sidewalk from the City Building parking lot to the south have also been completed.

Phase IV of the project is to finish construction of the flag plaza and to provide a second access sidewalk to the plaza from the street to the north. Future phases will complete the landscaping and benches around the plaza. The Club has been able to do local fundraisers and use Club volunteer labor to complete the previous phases, but needs some financial help to complete the plaza this year. Club members are involved in several ways. The County Planner is a Club member and provided design expertise and helped the Club form a plan for the plaza and adjacent landscaping. The initial project chairman has an engineering background and provided leadership for completion of the initial phases. Under the direction of an experienced and civic-minded local contractor and the current project chairman, club members also have provided equipment and extensive volunteer labor to erect forms and assist with the various concrete pours. Phase IV will require forming and pouring 13 cubic yards of concrete and Club members will provide an estimated 40 hours of volunteer labor for this effort. The cost estimate is a total of $1,200, with the Club providing $200 and District Grant funds providing $1,000. The funds will be used primarily to help pay for the concrete.
