This our primary project.
The Holdrege Robotics Club operates under the Holdrege Public Schools but receives no financial support from the school. Teachers (employed by the school) serve as sponsors.
Robotics clubs support STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) opportunities to middle school and high schools students. The challenge opportunities in Robotics clubs give students a slice of how these applications work in the real world. The skills learned through this educational opportunity for youth are parallel to skills needed to be a Rotarian. Working together, we can solve problems and create opportunities for others.
Each year the Holdrege Robotics Club is given a new challenge and they must purchase a new game ($500) and supplies to carry out the challenge. The new challenge requires that their robots be re-built, necessitating the need for new robotics supplies. How big they can dream and how competitive they become is limited by the amount of supplies that they can afford to purchase.
The club likes to field three teams and they currently have enough money to fund one competitive team. (Successful fundraising will have the potential to open up this club to middle school students. This would result in higher costs for registration fees and supplies.)
The club participates in three competitions each year and the registration fee for each competition is $150 plus $75 per each additional team.
This group holds fundraisers and has recently received $600 from the City of Holdrege for distributing flyers prior to the choice gas selection. The Educational Service Unit #11 purchased a 'practice field' for the club several years ago.
The Holdrege Rotary Club would like to provide funding for these students to to enter competitions as well as funding for extra robotics supplies.
We have several Rotarians who are engineers and volunteer to help the robotics club with their projects. The club plans to present their challenge to the Holdrege Club at an upcoming social.
