Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Camp Pendleton, CA

Total Budget: $20,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Our club will support the families of the Camp Pendleton Marines stationed overseas by assisting with the Toys for Tots distribution and giving each family a ham for their Holiday Dinner and a $50 gift card for the base exchange stores.

We will be helping the grade E-5 and below for the Holidays by providing a Holiday ham and a $50 gift for them to use at the base exchange stores. These are the neediest of families who often fall below the poverty line and whose spouse is stationed overseas and unable to assist their families. We will raise $20,000 to support 200 families. Additional funds raised will be given to the Camp Pendleton Armed Services YMCA to support their after school programs that provide educational tutoring and emotional support groups. This will be our fourth year with cumulative contributions amounting to approximately $45,000 from the previous three years. Funds provided to the after school programs have been about $5,000 per year depending on funds raised. The Armed Services YMCA program fill a void for many of these children who need additional assistance in their school work and a venue in which to work through various emotional issues that arise from a parent being deployed for an extended period.
