The Micro-Business Project "MUJERES EMPRENDEDORAS" (female entrepreneurs) is a joint social project between the Baptist Church Association in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club in La Mesa, California, United States. It will assist women who are living in situations of extreme poverty and risky social environments to acquire the necessary training to develop products that can be commercialized, giving them the opportunity to have earning power and improve family income. This project will also help women to develop the social and economic skills needed to become successful businesswomen.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
. Provide training for low-income women to acquire the necessary
knowledge and abilities to start their own micro-business.
. Help 240 women become micro-business owners.
. Contribute to the improvement of their life styles and to strengthen
their family unit.
. Improve the country's social and economic development through:
a) The development of micro-business owners.
b) The generation of sources of employment.
c) The improvement of their family's finances.
d) Promoting the values and principles that will allow them to become
citizens with strong business ethics with a vision to participate
in their country's development.
e) Become an instrument to contribute to the reduction of
unemployment and poverty.
PARTICIPANTS' SOCIAL CONDITIONS
1) Woman in extreme poverty
2) Single mothers
3) Disabled women
4) Women in high risk situations (battered, homeless, and
chemically dependent)
5) Unemployed women
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
1) To train 240 women in one year (July 2010-July 2011)
2) Four-week workshops for each training category
3) Each group of women will be trained for six months and graduate at
the end of the six month period.
4) The second six-month cycle will train a different group of women
in different communities.
5) To improve the country's social and economic development through:
a) The development of micro-business owners
b) The generation of sources of employment
c) To teach the values and principles of strong business ethics.
d) To become an instrument that will contribute to the reduction of
unemployment and poverty.
PROJECT WORKSHOPS
1) Fashion jewelry making
2) Perfume making
3) Developing house cleaning products (soaps, disinfectants, detergents)
4) Food preparation
5) Basic micro-business training and financial management.
OTHER OPTIONS: Baking classes, curtain-making, intimate apparel manufacturing, and piñata-making workshops.

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT STAGES
. Stage 1: Identify locations and enroll participants in the project "Mujeres Emprendedoras".
. Stage 2: Implementation will take place in four different
entrepreneurial community training centers. All training sessions will be
offered simultaneously, and participants will rotate through each session
. Stage 3: Graduation from "Mujeres Emprendedoras".
