Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Jackson WY

Total Budget: $4,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Scholarship

Summary: This is the regional application for a district grant scholarship for a student in Jackson to go to the University of Wyoming to study general education and literacy.

This is a scholarship district grant request to assist Jesse Potzernitz to attend University of Wyoming, Fall 2018. His desired field of study is Engineering/teaching in Basic education and literacy.

Jesse has 13 years volunteer work for Jackson Hole Firefighters association and has worked while completing school since 2014 in jobs such as gardening, physical labor, excavator, large equipment maintenance, and heavy equipment operator. Jesse is also a local bull-fighter with the Jackson Hole Rodeo.

Here is his essay on the 4-way test:

"The average human should have certain values that they uphold and practice in any manner. My values are no different than what we expect from a law abiding genuinely thoughtful member of society. I was raised in a typical happy household with one sister, and two very loving parents. Both my mother, and my father had an immense influence on my life, my values, and my beliefs. I was born in Jackson Wyoming, and grew up on Hog Island within walking distance of most of my immediate family. Throughout my entire life I was taught right from wrong, good from bad, and everything in between. My upbringings were slightly different from most other Jackson locals, and I was raised in a more traditional sense than most. My father is a religious man and he tried to implicate the traits and values of a good man into me. The Four Way test is in many ways admirable, and it's core ideas are what every human should strive for. The truth is very important to not only me, but my entire family. We are very open with each other, and never lie knowing that in the end the truth will always trump lies and that honesty is an absolute quintessential element in building good relationships, and maintaining them. I attempt to be fair in every way possible. Whether I'm in school, at home, or on the open road I am fair to all who are deserving of such treatment, and even some who may deserve a second chance. Whenever I can, I enjoy lending a helping hand to anyone in need, and assure myself that if it was I in this situation, assistance would greatly be appreciated. I have never stolen anything, no matter how tempting something may be, or how easy it would be to get away with. I simply refuse to take part in any thievery, not because I don't want to face possible consequences, but because it is plain wrong and in no way fair to anyone involved. Deciding what's right or wrong, correct or not, and upholding myself to a higher moral standard than the average everyday citizen has built something inside me. Something great, something I can point to and say in the end I did well, I made something of myself. Holding myself to these standards does, build goodwill and instills trust in those I surround myself with, and in turn well received goodwill builds friendships, and creates the unbreakable and everlasting bonds of friendship. I was taught to believe all these things were common knowledge, and everyone should follow these simple rules and attain these attributes. Not only for the betterment of themselves, but the betterment of the people around them and possibly even the betterment of the ever changing and volatile world we live in. If everyone could use this 4 way test in every situation, every evaluation, and every action I sternly believe we could forever change the world for the better giving ourselves, and future generations a chance at a world truly beneficial for everyone. I would like to become a teacher and help to guide the youth to a life like this. I believe I have the opportunity to do great things, and truly have a positive impact on this world. Thank You for your consideration."
