Project Description Country: USA Location: Holdrege, NE Total Budget: $1,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: The Library would like to purchase and 'After School Edge' digital learning station. This workstation is aimed at students 6-14 years of age. The unit contains over 50 top-rated educational software titles that help foster independent, self-paced learning. This product is aimed at extending learning from school hours to after school and spans the curriculum spectrum from reading and math to reference and the arts. The libary currently houses an AWE Early Literacy station for preschoolers that averages 200 uses per month. Phelps County has 1132 children between the ages of 5 -14 and 1132 of those children are library card holders. 23% of households in Phelps County earn less than $25,000 per year and this is a primary target demographic for all of the Holdrege Library services. Families will benefit from enhancements to traditional learning avenues. This software will help the library to meet the needs of school-age children while avoiding the issues of parental approval for internet access or no internet access at all. Other approved funding, along with this grant will allow the library to purchase and implement the project as soon as the project is funded.
