The RC of El Cajon in collaboration with Compassion for African Villages, a USA non-profit organization purchased (2018) and refurbished a 40ft shipping container into a classroom for rural community vocational training in Lukenya - Kenya. The center will be run by Paul Mue Foundation and will offer financial literacy classes in preparation for micro credit loan program. The center will have a government approved certificate training in a number of computer fields through a corroboration with Computer for Schools Kenya (CFSK). CFSK is a Kenya non-government organization lead by a Rotarian and whose goal is to "establish an information-rich Kenyan society actively contributing to sustainable national development. CFSK empowers youths and rural communities for life in a knowledge-based society by facilitating the development of ICT infrastructure and capacity". CFSK will provide a paid trainer for this certificate program.
This grant will purchase 5 new laptop computers in San Diego and Rotarians will equip them with appropriate software and security information. They will be delivered to the center by our club Rotarians.
The center is not connected to national electric grid yet, hence need for laptops. Computers will be charged at nearby Lukenya girls' high school. Negotiation are underway to expand the certificate training to two nearby schools and Orphanage.
Paul Mue Foundation will maintain the computers for the benefit of the community and the center. Up to 500 community residence and school students will benefit from this effort.
