Project Description Country: USA Location: Donnelly Total Budget: $6,000 Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: Volunteer Services Summary: Donnelly Food Pantry: The Excellent Egg COVID-19 Food Support Low-income members of the Donnelly community 'shop' at the Donnelly Food Pantry. The pantry serves between 500-600 people monthly, which includes 150+ children, 350+ adults and 100+ seniors. Due to COVID-19, the demand has increased significantly. With the distribution of the fresh eggs/milk, a flyer will be handed out on a bi-weekly basis with the nutritional value of eggs/milk, recipes for using eggs, how to include eggs/milk in your diet, etc. The funds will be used to purchase eggs and milk at a discounted price through Ridley's in McCall. The food will be distributed on a weekly basis from July 2020 - July 2021. The goal is to provide nutritious foods to clients. Another important aspect is to educate clients to the value of eating a well-balanced, consistently healthy diet. Rotarians are already involved in the distribution of the food from the pantry and with this project Rotarians will also help grow the education portion of the program. Rotarians will provide healthy and nutritional recipes for including milk and eggs in the diet. The Rotary logo will be included on the printed pieces and the dairy refrigerator will have a placard letting clients know dairy products are sponsored by the McCall Payette Lake Rotary Club. The Donnelly Food Pantry, run by a Rotarian, purchases eggs and/or dairy products with the grants funds to distribute to their clients on a weekly basis. They have been serving 260 – 280 local low-income families per week. Approximately 800 – 1000 people monthly are benefitting from the added nutritional value of the egg and dairy products being provided. Every Thursday from 4 – 6pm food boxes are distributed, which include egg recipe cards made by Rotarians. A placard hangs over the dairy refrigerator letting clients know the McCall Payette Lake Rotary Club sponsors the egg and dairy products.
