Project Description Country: USA Location: Kenai Peninsula, Alaska Total Budget: $3,000 Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Community economic development Activity Type: Education: Scholarship Summary: 2 - $1,500 scholarships for vocational college students Our local vocational college is the fastest-growing college in the University of Alaska system and offers a wide variety of degrees and certificates. Some include Fisheries Technology, Marine Biology, Welding tech, certified nurses aide and Medical Imaging, corrections, and firefighter prep.) There is a need for those who attend vocational colleges for the necessary gear/equipment to enroll in their courses (for example Welding helmets, gloves, tools) in addition to the normal textbooks. Kenai Rotary Club wants to help two students with these needs who do not, currently, have any other scholarships or the means to acquire these tools/books. Needs will be identified with the help of a past Rotarian who is the current director. Members of our club will collect applications from our local high schools and conduct interviews to select the two recipients.
