This grant will allow the Rotary Club of Kenai to assist a local nonprofit, Freedom House (a faith-based, level 2, long-term recovery residence located in Soldotna, Alaska), to purchase materials to rebuild two decks that are currently unstable due to deteriorating wood. Freedom House houses/serves approximately 47-50 people per year. Residents are transitional and are provided with the life skills they need to move forward with a clean and sober life. This grant will assist for a deck to be restored and rebuilt at both the women's and men's Freedom House facility.
The residents are members of the Kenai Peninsula area who need a reliable place to live to stay sober and learn valuable life skills. This project will provide a safe place for mothers and children to visit each other and for residents to enjoy the outdoors while they heal. It will benefit the local economy by having productive members back into our society in the long run.
