Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Kodiak, Alaska

Total Budget: $9,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Scholarship

Summary: Scholarships for graduating high school seniors and for continuing post-secondary students.

The Kodiak Rotary Club has granted five (5) $2,000.00 scholarships annually for many years. These scholarships have been split between graduating high school seniors who have had a focus on community service during their high school years and post-secondary, continuing education students who have a commitment to our community.

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted our club's fundraising ability. As a result, this year we have $6,000.00 so far available to award for scholarships. With this grant application, we are requesting a district grant of $3,000 to supplement our club funds to allow us to continue to award scholarships.

Our club works with the financial aid office at Kodiak College and the Kodiak High School Counseling Office in the promotion of our club's scholarships. Club members review and select the scholarship awardees. For the 22-23 school year, club members will be reviewing applications within two weeks and selecting awardees by the end of April 2023.

Any grant funds received will be processed through the Kodiak Rotary Club's, Kodiak Rotary Scholarship Fund (KRSF). This Fund keeps the club's scholarship program funds segregated from club operational funds.
