Location: Homer, AK

Total Budget: $2,000

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: Loved and Lost Memorial Bench

In support of the District 5010 Human Trafficking special interest area, the Rotary Club of Homer-Kachemak Bay is teaming with Homer's Loved and Lost Memorial Bench Project to raise awareness of the issue of missing women and children that exists statewide, nationally, and internationally. This project was initiated by the family of Anesha "Duffy" Murnane, a 38-year-old woman who went missing in downtown Homer, Alaska on October 17, 2019. In addition to Homer's memorial "Duffy" bench, the project hopes to reach out to other Alaska communities who may have lost members under the same circumstances and provide them the opportunity to establish a memorial bench. Club matching funds will come from Health Fair income.

On August 9, 2022, Kim Zook, President, Rotary Club of Homer-Kachemak Bay, presented a check for $2000.00 to the Homer Loved and Lost Bench Project. This donation was made possible by a matching grant from the Rotary International Foundation. Moved to act by the abduction of Anesha "Duffy" Murnane in 2019, the Loved and Lost Bench project brings attention to two of Rotary International’s key initiatives, the promotion of women’s health and safety, and the prevention of human trafficking. The Loved and Lost Bench at the Homer Public Library reminds us that violence against women and human trafficking impacts every community. Anyone can be a victim. And it does happen in our own backyard.
