Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Kenai Peninsula, Alaska

Total Budget: $2,000

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: Boys & Girls Club Learning Materials

The Kenai Rotary club will donate learning materials to the Boys & Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai club. This money will be coordinated with the leadership team of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula, to go toward materials that assist in educational programs offered. With an emphasis on the afterschool STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) programs. The Kenai club serves an average of 100 students aged 5-11. This grant will help the teachers have the materials needed to put on specialty programs that promote literacy and enrich students' lives by learning about career options for their future.

In addition to the learning materials, Kenai Rotary club members will learn more about the local Boys and Girls club. And we can reach out to teachers and students about Rotary in hopes of an ongoing partnership between both clubs.

The check was given to Boys and Girls Club of Kenai on January 24, 2023. Materials were then purchased by the club to create pine wood cars for their summer program. The students will have kits that they will work on during their STEM program this summer and will have an in-house race to conclude the lesson. The teachers will work with students on planning, building, coordinating race day, etc., and will have a fun car to race in the end!
