Summary: Outreach to extend the availability of good, cooked and delivered meals to seniors in need
Meals of Joy was founded by Rotarian Larry Cervarich in 2014 to address the needs of seniors in our community who were choosing other basic needs over healthy meals. They may be unable to prepare their own meals due to poor health, lack of transportation or economics. Meals of Joy now delivers fresh ready-to-eat meals five days a week across the West Valley of Phoenix.
Nutritious meals are delivered ready to eat. There is nothing to prepare. There are no start up fees, contracts or minimum orders. Delivery is provided by volunteer drivers. In the Greater Phoenix Area 80,000 seniors live below the poverty line. In Buckeye, many low income seniors are single women who are entirely dependent on limited social security. Meals of Joy works with seniors to adjust prices to amounts they can afford. Our research indicates that there are a number of senior living facilities in Buckeye and surrounding areas which are underserved. Our grant will provide Meals of Joy with funding necessary to offer greater subsidies to those in need.
Verrado Rotarians will have to the opportunity to serve as delivery drivers for Meals of Joy. Each week Rotarians can logon to the Meals of Joy website to see where the needs are and select one or more routes to serve meals during the midday hours. We expect to offer services during summer months and other times where volunteers may be in shorter supply.
Rotary Recognition-
Meals of Joy will acknowledge our contribution. In addition our club members include the former mayor of Buckeye, a current councilman and the police chief. We will make this project known to them and add a story to our website.

Congratulations! The Rotary Foundation has approved our block grant, which means we'll have the funds soon.
As you know, you must wait until this point to spend any grant funds. Your final report, which is due April 30, must include
receipts for the entire budget of your grant (gather them as you go along, please) dated August 4 or later. The report form is
available in the Foundation section of rotary5495.org. Please be sure your bank information is up-to-date so there is no delay
in sending the funds by electronic transfer. This information, as well as questions about when you'll receive the money, should
be addressed to our District Treasurer, Lucinda General at treasurer@rotary5495.org

A friendly reminder: The report for this grant either has not been submitted or is incomplete. The deadline for reporting is April 30. Late reports can jeopardize your club’s future grants and delay receipt of next year’s funding for all clubs in the district. The report form can be found here:
The completed, SIGNED form, along with all project RECEIPTS, must be uploaded in PDF format to the project website in order to close the project.
Thanks.
