Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Boise

Total Budget: $1,500

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: Purchase books and building materials for Little Libraries

Boise Centennial Rotary has identified Basic Education and Literacy as one of its primary areas of focus.

The Idaho AEYC cites that less than 50% of Idaho children are "ready for kindergarten" at age 5, meaning they can identify fewer than 10 letters of the alphabet. To improve literacy outcomes in our community, BCR has partnered with local preschools and schools to build little libraries on their campuses.

We currently manage two little libraries and plan to expand in the 2022-2023 Rotary Year. Our goal with this district grant is to purchase materials to build more, as well as purchase novels, reference books, and other materials to keep our little libraries stocked.

Our goals are:

1) to provide children with reading materials to improve education outcomes;

2) to spread awareness of Rotary's mission by placing a Rotary sticker in each book;

3) to engage at least half of our Club in this work (purchasing books, stocking the libraries, building/installing libraries, etc.).

If you are satisfied with your grant application, the next step is to start the club signature process. Do this on the Admin side of the Description tab in your application. Until the grant is signed by both incoming president and primary contact person, the grant may not be considered for inclusion in the district block grant application to The Rotary Foundation.

A grant report is due no later than May 15th, 2023. Failure to report by the deadline may impact your club's ability to receive a grant in 2023-24 Rotary year. For final report, download the report form from the administration side of the description tab. Fill it out, being sure that the expenses listed in the report match your receipts and any other documentation of expenses you provide. Upload pdf copies of your report and the receipts to the documents tab of your grant. Then click "reported", a button on the administration side of the description tab. If the project is not done, file a progress report - a history log telling us when you started the project, what % complete you are & when you plan to finish it out. Call Marianne 208 308-5617 if you have questions about reporting.

This is a reminder that you have a report due on this grant by May 15th, 2023. If the project is completed your submittal should be a final report. You'll find the report form on the admin side of the description tab for download. Complete the report, save as pdf and upload to the documents tab along with supporting receipts. If project is not complete, provide a progress report by sending a history log email stating when you started the project, what percent complete it is and when you anticipate being wrapped up.
