Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Pocatello, Idaho

Total Budget: $2,500

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: Purchase coin laundry cards and kits of washer-dryer products for homeless people in Pocatello

Project Description: Most of the homeless population including singles and families in Pocatello do not have access to laundry washing and drying machines. Their personal sanitation/hygiene suffers and citizens are offended by 'unclean' people.

The project includes buying 90 coin operated laundry service "loyalty cards" that operate the washer-dryer machines and 90 kits containing 12 loads of laundry detergent pods, fabric softener, and dryer sheets plus a collapsible hamper. The laundry kits would be distributed through the Aid For Friends Homeless Shelter and the Family Services Alliance that supports domestic violence victims. Storage of partially used kits would be provided. This project would provide laundry services distributed monthly to people in need.

Project would cover 12 months of homeless individual and family needs. Pocatello Centennial Rotarians volunteer at homeless shelter for meals and support so will help implement this project. Rotarians from other clubs and Rotaract will be invited.

Spending Plan for Tier 2A project

Total spending $2,500. $1,250 D-5400 DDF funds; $1,250 Pocatello Centennial Rotary Club funds.

Spending would acquire 90 coin-laundry cards at $9 each plus 90 laundry supplies kits at about $18.78 each (Amazon Prime).
