The community of San Clemente has experienced a high level of divisiveness over the past several years, and we have identified a significant need for the promotion of peaceful discourse and a stronger ability among the community to resolve conflict.
"Difficult Conversations: The Art and Science of Working Together" is an engaging, interactive workshop exploring a powerful set of principles and strategies that will help participants approach difficult conversations in a radically new way - one that can heal divides and change hearts and minds. The Difficult Conversations workshop was created by author Kern Beare, and this project is a partnership between the San Clemente Rotary Club, the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce, and local non-profit First Amendment Voice, which helped developed the program.
The total budget is $3,800, which will be funded through a combination of this grant and ticket sales at $20 per participant. Expenses include catering breakfast and lunch, speaker travel/accommodations, marketing, staff time, and miscellaneous expenses. The scheduled date for the event is September 10th from 8am-3pm.
We believe this program will help to heal the divisiveness in our community by giving participants awareness and tools, which they can display and share with those they interact with. We will invite all members of the community to participate, as well as members of neighboring Rotary Clubs. After the event, we will conduct a survey to evaluate the impact of the workshop on participants.
