Community Development: Disaster Recovery
Summary: Working closely with local Fire and EMT agencies to develop First Aid/Disaster Preparedness program and to inform and education students.
This hands-on project is based upon a "Service Above Self Scholarships" to high school students. For the last two years, Rotary Club of Irvine seeks project ideas which embodies Rotary's Service Above Self from the local high schools. A committee reviews the entries and select one awardee from each of the 6 Irvine High Schools. The Club then works with the students to implement their project. This project is from a high school student at Woodbridge High School and involves providing training on basic first aid, being aware of signs of stroke/cardiac arrest, and disaster preparedness to high school students. Irvine Rotarians and high school students will be responsible for working with local Fire and EMT agencies to develop a program to inform and educate students about basic first aid (cuts, etc.) being aware of signs of stroke/cardiac arrest, and preparing a family disaster preparedness plan and kit. Written materials will be provided to students and video(s) will be created re: education on these issues. Irvine Rotarians and students will assemble first aid and disaster supplies for distribution.
