Project Description Country: USA Location: Santee Total Budget: $1,000 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: Monetary donations to organizations supporting literacy This grant includes donations to three organizations: Buddy's Backpacks will receive supplies in the amount of $250 for their annual school supply drive in honor of the late Buddy Rubaya. These backpacks full of supplies will be distributed to local children before the school year begins. Reading Legacies allows children to see and hear books read to them by their incarcerated mothers. This program will recieve $500 from our club. Volunteers, two of which are in our club, go to the local women's prison and recod women reading books to their children. Afterwards, the books and the video are sent to the child so they can see their mother reading to them, hoping to foster a lifelong love of reading. San Diego Council on Literacy has a program that provides a monthly book to a local child for only $25 per year. Our club will donate $250, allowing 10 children to receive monthly books for one year.
