There are three school districts who will be included in this project, totaling over 30 elementary schools. Each school's third graders will receive a dictionary by Christmas break for their skill learning which usually occurs in the second semester of school. The teachers look forward to the distribution day and the students, upon receiving their books are excited to have a book to call their own.
1) ISDs need dictionaries for each of their third grade students by start of the January school start for second semester, an estimated total of 3000 dictionaries.
2) Denton Lakes Cities Rotary will contact each school to get more exact numbers of student population and then will coordinate with each elementary school principal. Time frame to meet with each school's third graders to present the dictionaries will occur from October through December. If any are missed those will be taken care of in January. Project completion will be by February 15, 2022. Project paperwork completion will be projected by end of March 2022 to get all pictures and receipts organized to be uploaded for grant completion.
3) Funds will be used to purchase dictionaries and labels to go in each dictionary. The label includes the RI wheel as well as the four-way test and a place for each student to print their name.
4) This is an "all club" project that requires over 90% participation in presenting and distributing each book to each student to truly be successful. It also includes a local Denton business to store the cases of dictionaries and insert a label in each dictionary. A sign up sheet is circulated at the club meetings in September and each club member is asked to sign up for at least one school. The first person signed up is asked to set up their school's day for distribution, where the others signed up will attend and take about 30-45 minutes to talk to the students about the dictionaries, and use the four-way test to look up words. In the past, each school's third grades meet in a common area (like the cafeteria) where all the students get their books at once.
