Project Description Country: USA Location: Justin, Texas Total Budget: $865 Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene Activity Type: Community Development: General Summary: In collaboration with Roanoke VFW, Champions Rotary of Justin is conducting a drive for and purchasing items needed to fill 200+ backpacks for homeless veterans. This year, Champions Rotary of Justin has joined hands with VFW Post 5074. Together we will collect items and distribute backpacks filled with basic hygiene products, food and winter necessities to homeless veterans. Over 200 backpacks will be filled with toothbrush, toothpaste, bath wash, shampoo, shaving cream, razors, socks, deodorant, combs, chapstick, socks, gloves, hand warmers, beanies, first aid kits, snacks, mylar blankets, and water. Members have already begun to contribute items on the needs list and Champions Rotary is asking for funds to go towards the purchase of backpacks. We have identified this need as it is the most expensive item on the needs list and the least likely to be donated. The most useful backpack that we can purchase in bulk on Amazon costs $865 for 200 backpacks. We will also be collecting items on the list via membership drive until November 16th where we will gather to assemble the bags at the VFW. On November 19th, the backpacks will be distributed to homeless veterans as the VFW keeps up with where they are typically staying.
