Summary: Purchase of 10 Laptops for first generation/low income students that need a laptop to enter college/university through College Bound AZ
The Mesa West Rotary Club developed a program called Rotary Builds Bridges McKinney Vento that serves Homeless and Unaccompanied 11th and 12th students in the Mesa Public School system to not only graduate from HS, but to go beyond. We have partnered with College Bound AZ. A 501c3, whose purpose is to minimize the barriers to a college education for first generation and low income students. College Bound AZ programs reduces food insecurity through their Food Pantry, The Laptop fund, that provides students a sturdy laptop with all the necessary software to last 4 years in college. Note: High Schools require all students to give back their laptop and other devices upon graduation from High School. These low income/first generation students do not have access to technology that is needed for college. And Scholarships, with working with College Bound AZ mentors (volunteers in the community) checking all available scholarships such as FASFA, PELL, Academic, Private - all monies available to help a student financially. Plus the mentor is with a student for 4 years, as research shows that staying in school is just as challenging. Our Club will use the District Grant for their Laptop Program. Our Club volunteers with these students through our McKinney Vento program, (mentor, holiday wishes, meet and greet, bridges beyond), and with College Bound AZ, our Club can run a Food Drive for the Pantry, Volunteer as Mentors, Present Laptops to Students and attend College Bound AZ annual fundraiser in helping College Bound AZ succeed.

Congratulations! This project has been approved for full funding. We are not certain when the money will hit your account, but our best guess is a month or so. The district has approved the project now Rotary International will review and approve. We’ll send you an update when we have one. Please also remember that you may not spend money prior to TRF approval and reimburse yourself from grant funds. If there have been changes in your bank account (information for electronic transfer), please get that to Lucinda General (District Treasurer) as soon as possible. treasurer@rotary5495.org.
