Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Peoria, AZ

Total Budget: $2,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Scholarship

Summary: One college scholarship funded for a graduating Peoria Unified School District Student

The Peoria North Rotary Club launched the George and Willi Wheeler Scholarship (named after a founding member of our club and Past District Governor) in 2022 and awarded its first two scholarships in 2023. Two graduating students from the Peoria Unified School District each received $2,000 to use toward higher education (college, vocational, trade school). The recipients were chosen based on several criteria: Financial need, academic achievement and history of community service. Club fundraisers funded the scholarships, and Peoria North has announced plans to award three scholarships in 2024-25. We are seeking a $1,000 grant (to match $1,000 put forward by the club) to fund a fourth scholarship in 2024-25. Our recipients will be chosen on the same criteria, with the winners announced at an annual community education event hosted by the school district.

Friendly Reminder: Thank you for applying for a District Grant for the D5495 2024-2045 Rotary year. In order to be considered for approval your club need to assure the MOU is uploaded to the documents tab in the District Grants Website. The MOU must be signed by two people, the current and incoming presidents. This needs to occur before the deadline of May 31, 2024. Also, please note which grant is your first choice.

In addition, make sure the signature process is completed.

Congratulations! This project has been approved for full funding. We need to do some administrative things, so we don’t know exactly when the money will hit your account, but our best guess is a month or so. We’ll send you an update when we have one. Please also remember that you may not spend money prior to TRF approval and reimburse yourself from grant funds. If there have been changes in your bank account (information for electronic transfer), please get that to Lucinda General (District Treasurer) as soon as possible. treasurer@rotary5495.org. Your report is due April 30, 2024, and receipts are required to complete the report (not invoices, cancelled checks, UPS shipping labels, or any other documents). Thank you for making the world a better place.
