Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Total Budget: $2,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: Provide high quality refurbished laptops to students at an affordable cost.

The mission of Laptops 4 Learning is to close the digital technology divide for students by providing them with high quality, refurbished laptops from Microsoft certified refurbishers that come with a 1-year warranty, at an affordable cost. Grant funding and donations are used strictly to reduce the cost of the laptops for low to moderate-income students or for those students who are in Title 1 schools who cannot afford the list price of laptops.

Students who apply for Laptops for Learning are students who may have access to a laptop at school, but not at home. This creates a digital technology "homework gap" divide. The impact of providing these students with a personal laptop for home use is the educational 'success playing field' is leveled for these students, allowing for more success in staying in and completing school.

Rotarians of Rotary Club of Scottsdale North will participate in this project by preparing the grant with the recipient and shepherding the grant through the grant process. RCSN Rotarians will follow up with Laptops 4 Learning to get feedback from students who have been provided laptops to gain perspective on how having a laptop at home has assisted in completion of schooling.

Publicity will involve posting information and pictures on the RCSN various social media channels regarding funding for Laptops 4 Learning and this District Grant.

Congratulations! This project has been approved for full funding. We are not certain when the money will hit your account, but our best guess is a month or so. The district has approved the project now Rotary International will review and approve. We’ll send you an update when we have one. Please also remember that you may not spend money prior to TRF approval and reimburse yourself from grant funds. If there have been changes in your bank account (information for electronic transfer), please get that to Lucinda General (District Treasurer) as soon as possible. treasurer@rotary5495.org. Your report is due April 30, 2025, and receipts are required to complete the report (not invoices, cancelled checks, UPS shipping labels, or any other documents). Thank you for creating hope in the world.
