Summary: Remodel Intake Area at the Magic Valley Womans Crisis Center Twin Falls, ID

Currently the Magic Valley Woman's Crisis Center uses their basement as their intake area. This is the area that the woman and children have to spend their first several hours at the shelter until the intake procedure has been completed. Part of the intake procedure is to have them remove all of their clothing and wash everything that came with them, there is nowhere private for them to go and at this point it is very unwelcoming and dreary. The woman and children that arrive at the shelter have just been through one of the most horrific experiences of their lives and they are brought into a dungeon of a room to expose their feelings of helplessness. There is no way currently for them to feel comfortable and safe with the surroundings of the room. Our club wants to remodel the intake area at the center so the woman and children have a warm welcoming environment to come into after such a tragedy. We would like to put in some more welcoming flooring and paint the walls. They need shelving installed so they can sort through their things without laying them on a cold floor. There is a need for seating and a desk for the intake interview. There currently are very few toys for the kids to help keep them occupied while Mom talks with the shelter providers, we would like to create a play area for them. We have figured it will require $3,500 to complete a remodel of their intake area. This is a small price for the huge impact it will have on the traumatized victims entering the shelter. As a club we will work with the shelter to redesign the area and create a warm, caring space for these abused woman and children to begin to rebuild their lives.

Your grant application for MVWCC renovations has received preliminary approval with a reduced DDF contribution of $2,500. If you wish to go forward with your project, please change the financing to reflect this, also adjusting cash contributions or the total. To do this, cancel the signature process (description tab – admin.) and adjust your financing to reflect the changes, and then send again for signatures. YOU MUST DO THIS BY AUG. 30, 2015, OR WE WILL ASSUME YOU NO LONGER WANT THIS GRANT, and the money will be given to another club. Your revised project will be reviewed by the district for final approval. If you have questions or need help, call Cari Kaster at (208) 539-1519 or Marianne Barker (208) 308-5617.

Please share with us your reasoning for reducing your club's contribution to this project from $1700 to $1000. When you were asked to revise your financing to reflect the amount of DDF you were awarded, it was assumed by the District that the club contribution would remain the same or that you would increase it in order to continue with the full proposal. How did the scope of the project change that your financial commitment to it is now less?

17-Aug-15

by Jennifer

Due to a decrease in grant funds it became necessary for us to decrease the project. It is not possible for us to do the full project with the decrease in funds and is not possible for this club, with its limited resources, to realistically increase the size of its contribution. The downsize in the project size, with the grant money, will not require the club to keep its contribution at its current amount. The amount of money the club is contributing is well above the required grant amount and we feel is a fair contribution to the project. If we find we are able to contribute more through our fundraising efforts we will reevaluate if it is possible to increase the size of the project back to its original goals.

The crisis center had a change of administration causing a delay in our project. We have been in contact with the new administration and are in the process of gaining access to the area we plan to remodel. We are in contact with a contractor to assist us in the remodel. Our goal is to complete the remodel by the end of June.

29-Nov-16

The club met at the crisis center and took measurements and discussed the final plan we are now ready to purchase the items needed for the remodel.

We are approximately 20% complete on the project. With their new rules it is not easy to access the area. We have the biggest part of the project almost done the rest should be accomomplished fairly easy, time is the set back. their new rules make access to the area difficult. I am hoping to have the project complete by mid to end of June.

With the completion of the changing room and the sorting/folding table being built we are 80% done with the project. We should be finished by early June

P-930 was approved for funding shelving, flooring, paint, seating, desk toys, play area for $3,500. The Final Report lists $1,184 in these expenses and $2,325 in refrigerators. Refrigerators were not an approved use. In History Logs, concisely explain what was not done that was originally planned as only $1,184 of $3,500 was used for approved purposes. The refrigerator purchase is now retroactively approved using the Club's explanation in History Logs but under condition of a satisfactory History Logs entry on the issue described above. Changes in proposed uses of project funds are to be approved by the District Grants subcommittee prior to commitment and expenditure of funds.

P-1687 will not be funded until the changes in project P-930 are satisfactorily addressed and until the grant documentation is audited for closure by the District Grants auditor.

this project was changed by the crisis center on several different occasions and due to them changing managment a couple times we ran into some delays and changes. At first they said we could do the work. We met with them and discussed what they were looking for. We started trying to find help with some of the contractor type work and they decided it had to be done by a licensed contractor and wanted to pick which contractor was used. They got a bid and it was incredibly high. We offered to pay our grants funds toward the materials if the contractor would let us be hands on. The contractor refused. We told them we couldn't do it then and would have to return the money. They decided to discuss it further and get back to us.

They ended up moving their initial paperwork location downtown, a new lady was managing the house location and said that the process had changed and they no longer needed a full remodel but they needed other items to help make the transition easier on the woman and children coming in. With her help we designed a changing area for them and helped make the basement feel more welcoming, they needed a table for them to fold and sort their laundry as they had to wash it all when they came in. They also needed a couple refrigerators downstairs for food for them keep food in so the intakes could have snacks and drinks. We found a great deal with being able to purchase 3 for the price of 2.

20-Sep-17

by Jennifer Cook

They said their upstairs refrigerator had not been holding temperature like it was supposed to so it would be great if that one was able to be replaced as well. With the bargain we were offered by Wilson Bates we pulled off getting all 3 they needed instead of just 2.
