Rotary Club: Carlsbad Hi-Noon Project Title: Dictionary Project 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Dictionary project for third-grade classes in 9 Carlsbad schools. 912 dictionaries were distributed, directly or indirectly benefitting students, teachers, parents, siblings. Participating elementary schools included: Aviara Oaks, Buena vista, Calavera Hills, Hope, Jefferson, Kelly, Magnolia, Pacific Rim, Poinsettia. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Directly 912; indirectly, probably up to 1500. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Third grade students were direct beneficiaries. Personal dictionaries inspire students to learn and explore various words and subjects. Their heightened interest in education, sparked by the new dictionaries, spreads to other students, teachers and family members. This project meets the literacy humanitarian need. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 24 Rotarians participated in project. 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Rotarians organized the dictionary distribution event. Rotarians distributed dictionaries. Rotarians introduced students and teachers to Rotary. Rotarians read to students in class and discussed a forthcoming literacy project, a book fair. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? No other cooperating organization. 7.
