Two elementary schools in Liberia were proposed to be built and the construction funded by our Club Honorary Rotarian Dr. Heinz Hoenecke. The Grand Bassa school in rural Liberia was completed in April 2018 and $6000 worth of school supplies for this school(cash receipts attached) was completed. Another school in Monrovia is a magnet school again being built and the remaining $6000 for the purchase of school supplies for this Monrovia school is under progress based on the attached list of school supplies for that school.

Basic education is in dire need in poor country like Liberia. The local population will be greatly benefited by the elemental school education at Grand Bassa and Monrovia Schools. The students will be enrolled for Fall 2018. The respective schools will be the beneficiary of the school supplies.

Dr. Heinz Honecke,, our Honorary Rotarian of DMSB visited Liberia and saw the need for elementary schools and decided to generously contribute approximately $40,000 to build two elementary/middle schools Grades 1-9. This will greatly enhance the literacy of the local population. With the help of DMSB President and International Chair, two others clubs namely Escondido and La Jolla Golden Triangle clubs agreed to participate in the grant.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

The NGO Water for Life Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, Nevada has a significant presence in Liberia and supervised the construction of the two schools. Our Honorary Rotarian, Dr. Heinz Hoenecke has been working with the NGO for the construction of the two schools and they will also be supervising the purchase and distribution of the school supplies. The NGO has received the $6k remittance from DMSB Rotary and is getting ready to purchase the school supplies and will be completed once the Monrovia Magnet School is nearing completion.
