Project Title: Esther Shea Field Media Booth


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The project was to construct a media booth at Esther Shea field, in Ketchikan. The media booth project was undertaken in conjunction with a bleacher project undertaken by the local government. Construction started in August, 2017, and was completed in December 2017. The dedication will be at the end of March.

2. How many people benefited from this project? over 400 local youth athletes and their parents.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The media booth and bleachers permit handicapped accessible viewing of events and filming and broadcast of local sporting events without risking damage to media equipment. The structure also provides additional storage and provides protection from the harsh weather conditions. The beneficiaries are the players and spectators, as well as the media representatives and the viewers or those listening by radio.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 35 if you include th efundraising. 8 on the actual hands on work.

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Cutting and fastening materials. Pouring concrete. Photographing the project. Providing refreshments.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

We had 3 cooperating organizations. R & M Engineering provided the designs at a discount, making a $2000 in kind contribution. First City Electric did the electrical work at a discount providing a $970 in kind contribution. The Ketchikan Gateway Borough Public Works Department provided contributions of labor and constructed the bleachers.
