Rotary Club: Carlsbad Project Title: Power for Smiles 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? This project provided funds for the purchase and delivery of specialized power instrumentation for the performance of complex facial surgical procedure required for the final phases of Cleft Orthognathic surgery on the patients treated in disadvantaged latin American Countries of Mexico and Central Americas. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 30-60 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Children and young adults afflicted with facial bone clefts growth abnormalities challenged with disadvantaged circumstances preventing them from ever having reconstructive surgery benefitted. This was realised both immediately, and those who are still in their growing process will benefit from the project sites having the equipment availability for the visiting and local surgeons to perform their care. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 15-18 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Financial support, local logistical support for the patient transportation and lodging arrangements. and several participated directly in the patient care as nurses and surgeons, anesthesiologist and mission team leader. 6.
