Project Title: Making Education Possible


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The Santiago Foundation supports education and trade training for young people and adults to expand their skills and opportunities. The Foundation operates two centers in Manzanilla, Mexico, that provide after school training programs; in job related skills and training, in craft skills that teach and foster both regional and Mexican culture. Foundation monies provide scholarships for promising students to complete secondary school or a university education. As many as 600 students may be served by the various programs in a typical year.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Young people and adults in Manzanillo, Mexico who need job-related skills and training.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 2 from AER and 1 former AER on location

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

AER Anne Garrett assisted in the submission and administration of the grant and reporting. AER Heather Flynn, who led the grant, traveled several times during the year to visit the Santiago Foundation and matched the club's gift in terms of time, and talent, as well as financial. The Santiago Foundation was founded by a former AER club member Linda Applegate.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

Santiago Foundation is a US nonprofit working in Mexico. They received and administered the funds using them to fund scholarships and some bus fares so that students could attend the classes.
