District Grant Final Report

District 5340

2017-18

Rotary Club: Chula Vista

Project Title: Annual Bike Drive

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The annual bike project was yet another success this year, thanks in part to the Rotary District Grant! We were able to distribute 300 bikes and helmets to needy children through San Diego's South County region. The activities took place in San Diego County.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 300 (plus family members)

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries were 300 children. The kids who received the bikes were either going through a hard time or their families did not have the financial means to provide a bike to their child. This is an extremely high impact project! We feel as though we provided a reprieve, hope and excitement to 300 children and their families.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 100

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

The Rotarians who participated were from various clubs around the South Bay region. Before the assembly and distribution of the bikes, a committee of Rotarians got together to price out and purchase the bikes and helmets from our vendor. This committee also organizing the the biggest group part of this project is the building of the bikes. Thanks for Rotarian Mike Vogt for donating a warehouse space for our use, over 100 Rotarians came together to build each and every bike and get it ready to distribute. Food for our many volunteers was also provided by a few of our Rotarians.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

We don't directly work with another organization for this program, however, due to all the work involved and the many organizations it supports we encourage participation from our partner organizations.
