Rotary Club: Chula Vista Project Title: Tijuana Library Project 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? A school was started in a poor area of eastern Tijuana, Baja, California, Mexico. The school had 30 students from ages 3 to 16, many of which had never had school before. The school did not have books. We worked with an agency that builds homes in Tijuana, and they made us aware of the situation. John Zawes with Project Mercy contacted the teachers for a list of books for the school. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 30 students X 5 = 150 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Students, teacherS, parents, siblings, the community where they all live. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 3 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. 1. Contacted a reliable person who frequently goes to Tijuana and was familiar with the school land the teachers. 2. Received and reviewed a list of books to be purchased. 3. Made personal contact in Tijuana with the contact to discuss and become familiar with the teachers and students involved. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? We have worked with Project Mercy over 10 years building small homes in Tijuana. In preparing for our house build they were made aware of our plans to do a Library Project in Tijuana and they were aware of the new school in the neighborhood the houses are built in. 7. Income
