Rotary Club: Southeast San Diego Project Title: Rotary Youth Programs 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Grant was used to expand our Rotary Youth Programs. Funds were used to sponsor our 1st Youth Exchange student, 4 RYLA students from Morse & Lincoln High Schools, 1-LEAD team and our 3rd Grade Dictionary program. Grant helped us fund for the first time 4 Scholarships for students involved in Rotary/community service to help Club Alumni with cost of books, housing or other college or technical school expenses. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 1112 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? These 5 projects focused on literacy & education. Beneficiaries included 1050 3rd Grade Students in 14 local elementary school, their teachers and families. Morse & Lincoln HS Interactors, individual schools and students. The LEAD program team was from Knox Middle School and they shared what they learned from the program with their school mates. This team and previous ones were inspired to join the Interact Clubs when they moved to high school. The scholarships were made available to Rotary Alumni and required documented community service. focused on service. The scholarships are in honor and named after a former club member, Getachew Alemayehu, in recognition of his dedication to community service. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? All 20 club members participated in one or more projects 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Members distributed dictionaries to each school and presented them to every 3rd grade class along with the 4-Way Test. Multiple club members including members from JV partner- Club 33 participated in the interview & selection process for RYLA & YE. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?
