Rotary Club: Del Mar-Solana Beach Project Title: Model UN Program 2017-18 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? This $4500 District Grant was initiated by our Del Mar Solana Beach (DMSB) Rotary along with two other clubs in the district. Six international High School students were sponsored from Mexico (3 teams) who participated in the Model UN Conference held at the Institute of Peace and Justice, University of San Diego Campus on April 7 & 8,2018 in San Diego, California. 50 teams or 100 students from all over the US and the world participated in the conference. Two resolutions were debated by the students advised by the Rotarians. DMSB Rotary along with San Diego Coastal and La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary clubs participated and each paid $750 + $750 DDF for 6 international students (3 teams) registration fees totaling $4500. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 6 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries are the six sponsored international students (3 teams of 2 students) from Mexico. These students from Mexico along with other international students including the local american students were given two resolutions to discuss and debate. This experience provided them with a greater perspective of global affairs and the students learned skill sets to be future effective negotiators and peace makers. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? About 75 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. The Rotarians served as advisers to their student country teams. They guided and trained the students to research, compile, write and practice their speeches on the selected two resolutions that were debated at the conference. The six selected students from Mexico enjoyed the participation in the conference and thanked the Rotarians who trained them. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? None 7.
