Rotary Club: Wasilla Sunrise Project Title: Handicapped Seating at Theatre 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Wasilla Sunrise Rotary Club (WSRC) has been working for many years with Valley Performing Arts (VPA), a local non-profit community theatre that has been a community asset to the Valley for over 43 years. VPA relies heavily on community donations to fulfill its mission of providing live theatre entertainment to Valley patrons. WSRC has assisted VPA previously with installing new seating in the theatre that was donated by another non-profit organization. The purpose of this grant was to purchase seating that would be appropriate for patrons with handicaps or other disabilities. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Over 10,000 patrons who enjoy the live performances that VPA stages each season. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries of this project are the many people that need accessible seating at VPA, allowing them to enjoy live theatre performances by local talented community members. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? At least 20 Rotarians have participated in this project. 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. WSRC Rotarians assembled seating that will be used for patrons of VPA with handicaps or other disabilities. After the theatre seats were completed, Rotarians returned for the additional project of assembling seating in the lobby that is used by patrons attending the performance that require places to sit while waiting for the theatre to begin its performance. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? VPA has been a long-time partner in many of the community service projects that WSRC does in the community. WSRC holds an annual fundraiser hosted by VPA that allows WSRC to fund its many community projects including youth services. 7. Income
