Rotary Club: Anchorage South Project Title: 3rd Grade Dictionaries 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? We distributed dictionaries to all of the third graders in the Anchorage area including the military schools. This is done with the help of 20 plus Rotarians between October '18 and January '19 as schools allow us to present to the kids. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Hundreds of children, all of the third grade students. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Children in the Anchorage area receive these books and they are always so excited to get a book that is theirs. The teachers are always happy for us to do this and they say that it gets the kids excited about 'words'. This falls under the Education and Community service. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 20 plus Rotarians 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. We coordinate with the principals and third grade teachers and we work very hard to get in front of the kiddos but some schools prefer for us to drop them off. We spend time educating them on what Rotary does in our community as well as challenging them to look up words like, Respect & Truth and show them all the other features of the dictionaries. Many of us recite the 4 way test and explain that we try to live by this in work and play. Teachers love this part of our presentation. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Anchorage International donates $1000 towards our project. 7. Income
