District Grant Final Report

District 5010

2018-19

Rotary Club: Anchorage East

Project Title: Support for Survivors of HT

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

Funds were used to meet the practical needs of survivors of human trafficking in Alaska, such as food, clothing, and personal hygiene items.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 22 survivors have been able to benefit from this so far.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The 22 survivors who have already been impacted by these funds represent a wide range of trafficking stories and situations. However, they all have one thing in common. They came into our program with significant needs. Some had no ability to provide food for themselves, the gift cards were used to help meet that need. Others came into our program with no clothes, or very few clothes, the gift cards were used to help meet that need. Almost all come into our program with no personal hygiene or care items, and the gift cards met those needs as well. These type of needs can often be a seemingly impossible hurdle for a trafficking survivor to overcome. Thanks to the availability of these funds, those needs were met and that hurdle was overcome.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? Approximately 30.

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

The primary involvement for this project was volunteer participation in the "2018 Rondy Rotary Beer Festival," which was an event put on by Anchorage East Rotary designed to be a fundraiser for this project. Due to the nature of the side of the project that provided food, clothing, etc., the survivors the funds supported, and the sensitivity to the need for anonymity, no Rotarians were directly involved with the project beyond fundraising efforts related to the beer festival and distribution of funds.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

No cooperating organization was involved.
