Rotary Club: La Jolla Sunrise Project Title: CouldYou? Literacy Project 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? 3 Projects, #1, Trained 210 teachers to identify illiterate students and get them illiterate in five months. #2 provided three community adult literacy classes. #3 Printed and distributed 300 Mr. Rabbit and the Well books to 300 classrooms impacting 3000 students. #4 Provided 200 girls with a reusable menstrual, cup keeping them in school as each cup lasts for 10 years. Took place Between Nov 2018 and July, 2019, in 3 cities in Mozambique, Beira, Nampula, Cabo Delgado 2. How many people benefited from this project? 24 thousand students and 198 adults 210 teachers. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? 200 girls were able to stay in school for 10 years because their menstrual needs were met, 21,000 students became literate. 3,000 students had access to their very first book, ever. 198 adults learned to read to read and write. Many of the adults were able pass the government State test at the 5th grade level. The humanitarian need was alleviating poverty through education With the focus on Literacy. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 2 Mozambique Rotarian's and 7 US Rotarian's. 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Mozambique, Provided oversight and monitoring and evaluating of the program. US Dave and Sherry Savage provided on going Strategy and Consulting for the initiative. The other 5 US assisted in providing District Grant Support and bringing awareness of this initiative. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? We trained teachers in partnership with the Ministry of Education in Mozambique and worked girls in partnership with the Ministry of Gender' 7. Income
