Rotary Club: Anchorage Project Title: Hostetler Park Phase II 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? In this second phase we have completed repairs (one light was vandalized). We also designed, and constructed a pillar including the Rotary emblem, and name of the monument. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Over 100 people attend the memorial service alone 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The park itself serves the community providing access to a beautiful park, the fact that it includes a memorial serves as a place of healing and reflection for people impacted by homicide in Alaska. Every year there are several small private ceremonies held by families who have a family members' name on the memorial. Additionally a ceremony is held each April for victims rights weeks. During this ceremony community members are invited to tie a ribbon (color matching the particular crime) on the tree of life. Another ceremony is conducted each July where families impacted by homicide specifically are invited to memorialize their loved ones. The impact is profound in the healing and education of tragedy in our city. Additionally, each year these ceremonies are designed to thank and honor 1st responders. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? Phase II; 3 with several more attending the ceremonies 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Rotarians continue to support the effort to maintain the park, including planting bulbs, general maintenance and we hosted a picnic at the park. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? The Alaska Fire and Police Chaplains organization helped to organize events. They, along with rotarians, shoveled snow periodically and checked on the park itself. Victims for Justice gathers the names and coordinated engraving of new homicide victims on the memorial itself. 7. Income
