Project Title: Tijuana Literacy Project


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The Rotary Club of Chula Vista's International Projects Committee, in partnership with the Tijuana Rotary Club, provides books and educational resources for a school serving a disproportionate share of underprivileged children in Tijuana, Mexico. The project was completed in June 2019.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 100 or more children and families

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The Club provided children's books selected by the school for kids in the equivalent of grades K-3, attending the school which serves low-income students.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 8

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

1) Worked in collaboration with the Tijuana Rotary club to facilitate our cross-border literacy program

2) The Chula Vista Rotary Club funded children's books selected by the school in Tijuana to be available to children in the equivalent of grades K-3, attending the school which serves low-income students.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

The Tijuana Rotary Club is very active in helping us work to purchase the books and get them delivered to the library.
