Rotary Club: San Diego Coastal Project Title: Car for Refugee Mom 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The project was to raise money to purchase a car for a Sryian refugee woman in San Diego. She needed the car to transport her children to and from school and to get to work. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 9 people 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries were Raouaa, the Sryian refugee mom, and her husband and seven children. She is now able to drive her children to school and appointments without asking her husband to take off time from work. She is starting a culinary skills class October 22 and the car will allow her to get to school and back. This class will pay her a salary for the next 8 weeks. She will then be qualified to work in the food industry. She will be able to start her catering business with her new car. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 30 Rotarians from the San Diego Coastal Rotary Club 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. My fellow Rotarians helped me raise funds and submit my grant proposal. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Contributions to the car fund were also private and via on line fundraising Go Fund Me. $3500 was raised in all.
