Rotary Club: Del Mar Project Title: How to Save Babies Lives 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? District Grant P2404 provided funds for the publication and widespread distribution of a formal report written by Dr. Sharon Schendel detailing the tremendous success of global grant G-815 (TRF# 1525173) ,†Saving Babies Lives in Ethiopiaâ€. Because of its success, this project has the potential to serve as a template for introducing Training of Trainers programs to save babies lives at birth throughout Ethiopia and in other low resource areas around the world. One hundred high-quality copies of this document were printed. Seventy copies were sent to the team in Ethiopia where they are being circulated among governmental and non-governmental agencies to generate interest and support for continuing the program at Gondar University Hospital and scaling up this successful project. In addition, the reports are being circulated among members of The Rotary Foundation and other major organizations involved in Maternal Child Health. 2. How many people benefited from this project? There are no direct beneficiaries currently. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? There are no direct beneficiaries currently. However, the purpose of the report is to publicize the program so that it not only helps Gondor University continue its work, but it can serve as a template to be replicated in other universities and health centers around the world, potentially saving thousands of newborn’s lives in the future. 4. Del Mar Rotarians involved in the project: Dr. Sharon Schendel wrote the report, Jim Brunner consulted on the printing of the report, Dr. Karin Davies managed the project. LaJolla Golden Triangle Rotarian Steve Brown circulated the report among Members of TRF and major Maternal Child Health players in the world including Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Jhpiego, and USAID. Gondar Fasiledes Rotarian Abiyot Admassu Tegegne helped circulate the reports in Ethiopia. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? NA 7. Income
