District Grant Final Report

District 5340

2020-21

Rotary Club: Rancho Bernardo Sunrise (San Diego)

Project Title: Oasis Haven

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

These project funds covered the annual school tuition costs and associated schooling expenses for 20 orphaned children in Johannesburg, South Africa.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 20 children (10 boys and 10 girls) benefited from this grant.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries were the children at Oasis Haven. They are abandoned and orphaned children from throughout South Africa, now under the care of Oasis Haven's family home model. These funds allowed these children who have experienced severe trauma and abandonment to be able to attend private or specialized schooling tailored to their individual needs. Due to their traumatic past, many of these children struggle in a large public school setting. The funds from this project were invested in these children's academic future by ensuring they were able to attend the right academic setting to help them achieve their highest potential. The hope is that these children will heal, be educated and ultimately be productive, contributing members of society once they reach adulthood.
