Project Title: Palliative Care and Home Care


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The project was to purchase medical equipment for palliative care and giving to a hospital and health care centers in the Maechan District, Chiang Rai province, Thailand. The equipment for each health facility was for the patients in need of borrowing it for their home use and returning it when they are either recovered or died. 14 health care facilities including a major hospital received this equipment.

2. How many people benefited from this project? at least 80 bed-ridden patients and their families/caregivers.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The bed-ridden patients are directly benefited as this equipment can lighten the load of their families and caregivers. And due to the equipment being on loan to the patients, it will be able to benefit other patients in the future as long as the equipment is still functioning. So it is has potential long term sustainability.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 32

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Member of the Rotary Club of Maechan were involved in:

1. Surveyed the needs of the equipment in the outlying communities

2. Purchased the equipment

3. Handed over to the the 14 health care facilitie in a special ceremony that Anchorage East Rotarian was able to view live via interet.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

There were 13 health care centers and 1 hospital in the NMaechan district involved in the project. All health care facilities have to monitor the usage of the equipment as well as managing the rotation (borrowing and returning) as well as maintaining the equipment.
