Rotary Club: Escondido Project Title: Robotics Team 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? This grant supported the Robotics program at San Pasqual High School. This program allowed the students to develop a variety of science, engineering & business expertise through hands on experiences. Students of the Robotics team also network with adults working in science, engineering among other industries. Building Robotics inspires creativity and enhances learning yet offers no grade or classroom credit. The success of the students of the Robotics team goes beyond high school. The vast majority of these students pursue a higher education: the list of colleges and universities they have matriculated include: Stanford, Harvey Mudd, & U C Berkley. .More than half of these students are attending with scholarships. These students are also active in community service. They provide Robotics clinics throughout San Diego, including running the Boy Scouts Robotics merit Badge clinic. They participate in summer school programs for students at Mira Costa College. 2. How many people benefited from this project? How many non-Rotarians benefited from this project? Celebrating completion of 12 years as a team, these students have influenced hundreds of students’ lives at San Pasqual High School as well as the many students throughout the community..Their community service projects include many students at Mira Costa College, Boy Scouts clinic, and Emmanuel Faith Church summer school program featuring Robotics. It would be impossible to give a number of non-Rotarians that have benefited from this project as they have provided many Robotic clinics throughout Sa in Diego in addition to what is mentioned abo ve. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? This program brings awareness to the importance of supporting our schools financially for after school activities such as Robotics. The San Pasqual Robotics team has been very successful. They have won many awards nationally and internationally, far to many to list here. They have earned their way to the World Championships 3 times. Other recognition for the Robotics team includes appearance on the USI Morning News and the ABC news. .They were one of the first programs to be featured on CBS innovate news segment that highlights STEM learning. The team has had multiple articles written about them in the Union Tribune and the North County Times. See #1The success of the students of the Robotics team goes beyond high school. This is a high school program therefore our participation has been financial. In order for this program to continue, funding from Rotary is essential. San Pasqual High School is a Title 1 school which means the school’s population has 57% of the students are on free or reduced lunches. The Robotics program is offered free of charge to students in order to make it available to all students. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Corporations have acted as mentors, sharing parts, sharing workspace, and more. DENSO was one of the major corporate donors.
