Project Title: Summer Camp Scholarships 2019


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

This project provided scholarships for 10 needs-based students between grades 2-8 to attend specialty camps in Fairbanks, Alaska.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 10

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Underprivileged children in the Fairbanks area were able to attend interesting, fun, and educational camps over the summer months. This provided an opportunity for them to have positive social interaction, learn about potential new hobbies or areas of study, and get outside in a positive environment.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 2

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Rotarians met with camp director to determine how best we could support the program, researched child development needs, and wrote grant to fund program scholarships.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

The educational summer specialty camps are sponsored by Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Summer Sessions creates programs and selects instructors, and selects scholarship recipients based on need as determined by the school district qualifications for reduced cost/free lunch program.
