Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The project was to provide funds for the schools who received garden boxes during the previous grant cycle to receive funds to purchase seeds to be planted in those garden boxes. The activity took place at over ten different school sites during the spring of 2020. Due to the pandemic and with the approval of the District Grant Committee the club did a pivot and purchased 51 turkeys to provide holiday meals for low to moderate income families in the Chinook Elementary area during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season of 2020.

2. How many people benefited from this project? unknown exactly

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries were the students learning about the source of their food and the process of growing food from seed to final outcome. In addition the community was impacted as the food grown was either donated to local food banks and other provider's of food to low income households and individuals. The pivot enabled the club to provide meals for 51 families during the holiday season.

After the pivot two Rotarians purchased and then delivered the turkeys to Chinook Elementary who was responsible for determining the need and delivering the turkeys to the families.
