Rotary Club: Homer-Kachemak Bay Project Title: Upgrade Community Parks 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The Rotary Club of Homer-Kachemak Bay, in a partnership with the City of Homer, applied a District Matching grant to upgrade parks, other recreation facilities, and in support of COVID-19 preparation activities. In our continuing efforts to maintain and improve the handicap accessible Homer Water Trail/Fishing Hole Picnic Pavilion, the club contributed sweat equity and $136.50 in supplies to improve and maintain the usability of the facility. At Ben Walters Park we used sweat equity to refurbish the fire pit and had the grill sandblasted for $75.00. In support of a combined Kachemak Heritage Land Trust – City of Homer effort to provide an in-city recreation facility, the Club contributed $500.00 towards the completion and signage for the handicap accessible Poopdeck Trail. In support of the Kachemak Bay State Park 50th Anniversary celebration the Club contributed $1400.00 for a photo cut-out that depicts the various wildlife found in the State Park. The Rotary signage is prominently displayed. The Matt Dudek Fishing hole on the Homer Spit is a highly used recreation area. In order to maintain its appearance, the Club teamed with the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies to purchase and strategically place recycling containers at this location: $ 479.85.
