Rotary Club: Santee-Lakeside Project Title: Solar for School in Mexico 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The objective of this project is to install a 57,285 Watt, 171 panel, photovoltaic power (PV) generating system at Rancho Santa Marta Orphanage and School (The Ranch). The new PV system will produce approximately 70% of the total energy needs which will save the Ranch $180,000 pesos ($10,00 dollars) annually. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 300+ 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The Ranch is a non-profit organization (NGO) that provides a home for 50 abandoned youth and a school for 250 kindergarten through 12th graders approximately 60 miles south of Ensenada in Baja California, Mexico. The Ranch believes every child should have the opportunity to be in school and be provided with all the tools necessary for learning. The Ranch offers them a safe haven where they are able to have the freedom to learn, opening opportunities that will change lives. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? Over thirty. 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. 1. Sourcing and obtaining the needed materials for the project. 2. Directly helping with the installation and calibration of the system. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Ensenada Rotary Club. Assisted within all phases of the projection for raising funds, to assisting in the finalization of the physical installation. 7. Income
