Rotary Club: San Diego Coastal Project Title: Hands of Peace Youth Leadershi 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? This grant helped fund the 2019 Summer Hands of Peace Program in San Diego. This program brings together Jewish-Israeli, Palestinian and American teens for a 19 day dialogue based experience. The program teaches team building, conflict resolution and leadership skills and helps the participants learn about different cultures and religion. It encourages all participants to incorporate peace building into their personal lives. During the facilitator lead dialogue session, the participants get to know each other and share personal stories and discuss ideas about what could bring about peace. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 600 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries include all Israeli, Palestinian and American participants. Because of ripple effect of what they learn and how they change, they also impact their family, friends, HOP volunteers and donors of the organization. They become peace buildings, eager to share what skills they have learned in the program. The great humanitarian need for peace was met. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 4 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Kelly Mellos has been a supporter and board member of Hands of Peace. She teaches about understanding 'the other' through the power of art. Dennis Reese has supported the program through organizing BBQs and games on the beach with the participants. Jenny Parker has also been a HOP board member and worked with the participants in conducting sports activities and serving meals. Reem Ghunaim -Rotary Action Committee for Peace Executive Director has joined the HOP Board. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Hands of Peace connection continues to grow and expand. Hands of Peace was honored to be named Rotary Pathways to Peace Peacemaker of the Year and Rotary Club of La Jolla Golden Triangle Peacemaker of the Year in 2020. HOP also presented and had a booth at the Rotary Peace Forum in Ontario and enjoyed connecting with Rotarians and the other exhibitors. 7. Income
